I know what it’s like having to study and try to make an income at the same time, it can be pretty challenging. In this post I’m going to talk about home business ideas for college students that are profitable and achievable on a very low budget.
Let’s do the countdown from good to best ideas…
#5 Paid Surveys
Doing surveys for a fee can be ok if you are looking to make money right now. Large companies are willing to pay people for their opinions and gain valuable market research data, so it is definitely a legit concept.
Essentially you just sign up to something like Inbox Dollars and you’ll get access to surveys and trial offers among others.
The downside to this concept is that you seriously won’t make much money and the time it will take to make anything substantial is crazy.
While I put this on the list to give you some ideas, I do not recommend it as the best way to earn a decent income or start a real business.
#4 Social Media Promoting
There are websites like IZEA that allow people with a blog or a strong social media following to promote products and services to their friends. These subtle recommendations could fetch you a nice little bit of side cash.
I wouldn’t really go this route unless you either have a pretty good following on Facebook, Twitter or Google + etc, or intend on getting one.
The other option is to do it using your blog posts but I assure you there are much better ways to monetise your blog than like this. I would only use this for social media personally.
#3 Sell Your Talents On Fiverr
Fiverr is a pretty cool platform that basically allows people with a talent in just about anything to sell their services for $5 a pop. Doesn’t sound like much but a lot of people are doing extra things along with it to bring the money up.
For example there are people offering to write you some sales copy for your website for $5, but anything over 400 words is another $5. If you want it delivered faster, another x amount and so on.
This can quickly add up and the great thing is anyone can do this.
I would recommend this route if you want to deliver products and services digitally and if you want to build a brand over time. Fiverr can be a great place to start and get your name out there.
#2 Write Freelance
The opportunities with freelance writing are just about endless. If you can learn how to write well, which shouldn’t be too much of a challenge for a college student, then you can get paid for your efforts.
A company named ListVerse will pay people $100 for every article they accept.
There are many more examples of sites like this and many blog and website owners eager to hire the services of a good writer.
#1 Affiliate Marketing
This is by far my top recommendation for creating an online business. There is an absolute ton of opportunity and you can get rolling for free.
What is affiliate marketing?
You can recommend products and services to people and when they buy, you get a commission.
The main idea is to build a website about something you are interested in or passionate about.
Then you begin writing content, getting visitors to your new website and ultimately make money by recommending quality products and services that people in your niche are already looking for.
If you can learn the right way to go about this, you can set yourself up for huge earning potential or even just some extra cash.
The key is understanding this is a legit business model and not falling for the shiny scams online, believe me when I say there are a lot!
Some Of The Perks Of This Business Model
Some of the main things I love about this:
- You can work from anywhere
- Earnings potential is practically limitless
- You can bootstrap your business on a very low budget, and even start it for free
- You can build a website about anything and make a full time income in just about ANY niche
- Potential to create residual income, money comes in long after the first sale
- Huge amount of opportunity still exists and once you learn how to find it, you will see what I mean
- Build a money making website around something you are passionate about
I won’t go on and on but these are the main reasons I love affiliate marketing. It really is perfect for someone studying because the costs are so low and you already realise the importance of educating yourself properly.
There’s a lot of different ways you can make money online and some really are better than others. I personally recommend affiliate marketing because there’s some pretty epic potential and it’s the business model I learned to create my first profitable internet business with.
