Today I am going to dig into whether you can really make money selling on Amazon with a blog or not. I’ll reveal what’s involved, how much you can make and give you an overview of the process involved.
Amazon In The Spotlight
Amazon is the worlds largest online retailer with a global revenue of $107 billion in 2015 alone. It all started in 1994 in Jeffrey Bezo’s garage when he realised the huge opportunity the Internet offered. He started selling books, now the company sells just about anything you could think of.
The best part is, anyone that learns the ropes can have their slice of the pie as well and getting started with Amazon is really easy.
How You Can Earn With A Niche Website
There’s a variety of ways you can earn money with this company but in my opinion the best way, and the way I am going to focus on, is by becoming an Amazon Associate. This means you have the ability to promote their products on your website and get paid commissions ranging from 4-12% depending on how much you sell.
This opportunity essentially allows anyone to make money by picking a topic they’re interested in and turning it into a profitable business.
There’s a variety of ways you can go about promoting these products but in this article I am focussing on promoting through a niche website.
A niche website is a targeted website that offers value to people interested in something specific and a place you recommend various products to those targeted website visitors.
For example, you may be interested in animals and after doing some digging you decide on creating a niche website about ‘dog training’. It might be about helping people learn how to walk, feed, socialise and get the most out of their furry friends companionship. You then learn how to get visitors to your new dog training website and people find your content relating to all things dog training really useful.
At this point you can do product reviews that tie in directly to Amazon offers. You could promote the best dog foods, treats, toys, walking harnesses or even books on dog training. Practically anything at all relating to your niche.
When people click on your special ‘affiliate links’ and make a purchase at Amazon, you get paid a commission! You do have to take the time to learn how affiliate marketing works and get yourself set-up, but it can be well worth the effort once you get going with things.
How To Find Niche Ideas Within Amazon
One of the main things people tend to get stuck with in the very beginning is choosing a niche. I liken this to being in a paint shop where there’s thousands of colours to choose from and almost all of them will work for someone. They are all going to do the job, so it’s really just a matter of choosing the one that YOU like.
The trick is to start broad and drill down into something that is highly targeted. The cool thing about Amazon is that it allows you to do this very easily.
Let’s take a look…
I am interested in camping in the great outdoors so I chose the broad category of ‘Camping & Hiking’.
From there I personally liked the idea of ‘camping lighting’ so this would become my niche. I still have more work to do to lock this in but I at least have a solid niche idea.
Personally I use a tool named Jaaxy to dig around even further and work out what kind of niche this is and what opportunities exist, it works really well for me. You can ry Jaaxy for free for 30 searches and it does have it’s advantages, but if you’re on a really tight budget the best free way to come up with a ton of niche ideas is to use Google Instant.
Simply go over to the Google search bar and type in ‘__ camping light’. Replace the __ with each letter of the alphabet from a-z. This will give you hundreds of targeted niche ideas to choose from.
Using this free technique I was able to come up with 5 different targeted niche ideas in about 30 seconds:
- Party camping lights
- Solar camping lights
- LED camping lights
- Gas camping lights
- Rechargeable camping lights
Each one of these could become a hyper targeted niche that you can dominate or you could go a little broader and have a niche website dedicated to all things camping lighting.
The point is there are 100’s of thousands of ideas just waiting to be taken advantage of and there are many completely untapped niche markets available right now. In fact writing this article gave me some really good ideas in the camping niche alone!
Don’t worry if you are new to this and are not completely sure what I am talking about, I’ll show you a great free resource at the end of this article that will help you get started as a complete newbie.
How Much Can You Make?
How much money you’ll make creating a niche website and marketing affiliate products is really up to you. Amazon really is just a part of the process, much like any affiliate program. The money is made when you understand the whole process and concept of affiliate marketing.
The great thing about Amazon is that you’ll be certain to get paid and they have so much variety the possibilities are practically endless. I’ve had people click my Amazon affiliate links and end up purchasing something totally different while they are shopping, and I still get a commission on that as well! Pretty cool stuff indeed.
The percentage may be small, but build a few successful hyper targeted websites or one authority website promoting a range of different products and it soon ads up.
The thing is you don’t want to just be someone that rehashes information that can already be found on Amazon itself. That will not get you sales and you probably won’t rank your website in Google. You need to offer relevant and useful information to your niche and then recommend products they are interested in.
This could be in the form of reviews, how to guides, your experiences, news in your niche, new products developments and anything else your target audience may be interested in learning more about.
Using the example above, I’d be the ‘go to guy’ for all things camping lighting.
Signing up is totally free and it’s pretty easy, almost everyone will be accepted. It is important to note that if you don’t make any sales in the first 6 months you risk being booted from the affiliate program. This is not of any major concern if you do things the right way.
Simply follow the right process and you’ll never have to worry about that. If it does happen, you can always re-apply later on.
Build A Profitable Amazon Website Business For $0
I’ve brushed over a lot of things in this article to give you an overall idea on making money as an affiliate. Don’t worry if you’re unsure about what I’ve talked about to some extent, I had no idea at all about this a while back and I managed to follow a free training course that led me to making my first ever commission as an Amazon affiliate.
The process really is simple…
- Choose a niche
- Build a website
- Get visitors
- Make money promoting ANYTHING you’re interested in
You don’t need to buy some specialist ‘guru’ training or have secret insider knowledge. You don’t need to be a web designer or have special marketing skills either.
This takes work and effort but it can and will work for you. One of the great things about affiliate marketing is that once you learn the process a large portion of your business can be automated and scaled to make even more money. If you can make $10, you can make $1000 and if you can do that you can make as much money as you want in due course.
In conclusion, yes… you absolutely can make money with Amazon if you are willing to learn the right approach.
I spent years listening to 'gurus' which left me broke, frustrated and totally lost. There's only ONE program that helped me create a real income online, here's how it helped me succeed...
