The History Behind Empower Network (EN)
EN was founded in 2011 by Dave Wood and according to the sales video, he ended up at a point so bad in his life that he was living out of a van. He then reached inside himself and discovered a secret strategy to make millions of dollars online…
He claims he wanted to help others do the same so he created a revolutionary blogging system that would teach anyone how to do the same. But is that what really happened? Read on.
The Core Product
In 2011 the core blog system was born. Essentially people would pay a small fee of $25 to access a ‘done for you’ blog. This was pretty much just a cookie cutter blog on EN’s domain. Not only that, the blogs were geared for selling the EN opportunity with very little customisation for anything else.
They were hosted on the same web address as EN, just slightly modified. This is known as a subdomain. So instead of your blog address being unique like ‘www.YourNewBlog.com’ it was ‘www.EmpowerNetwork.com/YourNewBlog’.
Why does this even matter?
When you share a domain with a group of websites, you all share either a good or bad reputation which can affect rankings in search results. In EN’s case (less than a few years after launch) most of the sites on their shared domain were penalised within search results quite significantly. The reason? They were nothing more than spammy, duplicate content hosted on the same main domain which means that collectively they ALL got a bad reputation.
After that flopped they made ‘Blog Beast’ which was another complete fail. No one uses it and no one ever will, yet they probably made millions convincing people it was the best thing ever. Fast forward to right now and we have the Kalatu blogging system. There are some minor improvements to this but I’m not convinced it’s as great as they say.
Essentially the blogging platform is a simplified version of WordPress with only 8 themes and no way to add plugins or customise to any kind of decent level. You also don’t own the content if you leave the company so you’ll lose everything you’ve worked on if you leave them. The other issue is the support is very limited for newbies trying to figure things out.
The EN Opportunity Explained
The price point starts at $25 per month for the blogging system but in reality, there is much more to buy in order to make it work for you. They also make it appear as though it’s going to help everyday businesses but the reality is, it’s all about promoting EN.
You also must purchase these extra products in order to earn commissions on them as an affiliate if you want to promote them, which is kind of the whole point. Anyway, here come the real costs involved…
- #1: $20 per month to qualify as an affiliate on top of your $25 per month blog. This one is more of an essential cost they don’t tell people about until after they join, without this you cannot make any money at all with EN
- #2: $100 per month to an ‘inner-circle’ that consists of a few audios and unlocks the ability to earn more commissions
- #3: $500 one time for a ‘Top Producer Formula’ set of trainings that essentially has nothing to do with building a blog or building a legit online business
- #4: $1000 once off payment for the ‘Team Building Formula’ which is basically some videos talking about promoting EN
- #5: $3500 one off payment for the ‘Mass Influence Formula’. This mostly consists of motivational type videos
Total Costs: $5000 plus $145 per month ($6,740 in the first year)
From a website building perspective, that is clearly a ridiculous amount of money to spend and totally unnecessary. However, the products do have value and I’m not saying they aren’t worth buying at all. I just mean in terms of building a website.
Building Your Downline Organisation
Once you get into this it is clear the emphasis is on building your EN team. This is fine, but they aren’t as upfront about this as I would personally like. The main focus of everyone involved is to get you to go ‘All In’ and if you don’t then you just aren’t serious about your future. As I just mentioned, this equates to about 6.5k.
Why I’m Not a Fan Of Their Blogging System
As I was saying earlier, they have a track record of selling people pretty average blogging systems. The latest ‘revolutionary blogging system’ is called Kalatu. There are only 8 themes to choose from and they are ALL geared towards selling EN. Yes… even the Real Estate template is geared towards selling people into the EN system..?
I’m sorry, but this is very strange and not something I think a genuine real estate professional would use. It makes no sense. They do this to make it appear as though they are helping everyday people and businesses create websites when their sole intention is getting more people into the EN sales funnel. Again, it’s the tactics they are using I have an issue with.
What I Liked
- Some value in the training material
- Money back guarantee
What I Didn’t Like
- You will not learn how to build a real website business for anywhere near $25 per month with this
- The blogging products are massively overpriced and overhyped
- Support is very much limited to people buying more products
- Misleading marketing tactics
The Empower Network is not so much about building a profitable website business as they are about getting you to build your EN sales team. The websites are generic and pretty much just a simplified version of a WordPress website that you could build for free or very little cost in comparison.
Considering Dave claims to have been so broke he had no money at all and wants to help others achieve success just like him, it makes me laugh how expensive he has made it to build a basic website! There is absolutely no need whatsoever to be paying some ‘guru’ thousands of dollars to build a blog or learn how to get it ranked in Google. I have personally built several successful websites making money every single month and I can assure you it costs a LOT less than this. I also have the freedom to promote anything at all within any of these. Safe to say, I don’t recommend this as the best blogging platform or biz op.
